One of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus leading industrial companies,  Boğaz Endüstri ve Madencilik Ltd, started its operations in 19982 on the coast of Kalecik village.  BEM operates as Grey Cement Grinding and Packaging plant within its domain.

It was established by Turkey’s leading construction company STFA ( Sezai Turkes – Fevzi Akkaya Group of Companies), In 2003 was purchased by Swiss origin Holcim Ltd. and continue to renew itself for the future with new investments in order to increase its competitiveness.

In 1982 ,plant established with 100,000 tons per year production and packaging capacity of 35 tons per hour,

In 1990, investing in the dynamic separator increased the annual production to 150,000 tons and investing in 12 nozzle rotary filling packaging machinery increasing packaging capacity to 100 tons per hour  and first-time started to shipment of bulk cement to its customers.

In 2005 with the growth in Cyprus construction industry, In order to meet the increasing market demand, between 2004-2008 BEM has increased its production capacity to 450,000 ton with the new mill investment. Following  its investments with renewing its crane and bunker system at its discharging Port.
